Cities and Towns
Zion – The Holy City, the Church-City. This is the seat of power for the world’s religious figures. The church-city of Zion holds shrines to a great many gods and goddesses, most of which have never manifested in this world. The greatest cathedral once paid homage to Pelor, god of the sun, and the pantheon he rose above. Now, however, the grand cathedral is sparsely adorned until the gods resolve their celestial pecking order.
Baenon – Baenon is a small town at the eastern coast of Edsel. Far to the north is the capital, the Church-City of Zion, where the Arch Pope delivers his divine edicts to the nation. But here, in Baenon, that is all very far away. Baenon is overlooked by two great estates. House Manoveir claims the lands north of town, an old family known for strict discipline over their holdings and rumors of vicious punishment of those who fail or cross them. To the south, House Orsim’s estates are run efficiently, if seeming to lack a cohesive order. Rumors of savage acts have plagued both families for generations, just as their rivalry has plagued the town.
To the east lies a deep forest, the most contested territory in the area. Both families claim ancestral rights to the forest, with claims of violence perpetrated periodically inside. Over the last ten years, eighteen townsfolk have gone missing within its borders.
West are the bluffs overlooking Bella Bay. The bay is a well-sheltered port, but with limited access. Only a few treacherous trails lead down to the beach and docks, while the stone staircase and gnomish liftinator are primarily used by the porters working for House Orsim.
Many citizens work the fields for one House or the other, while others take service positions within the estates such as guards, cleaners, or personal attendants. House Manoveir is known to have a fine weaponsmith within its estates, while the town blacksmith is more familiar with pots, pans, horseshoes and farming implements. House Orsim employs a very intelligent gnomish engineer (hence the liftinator), while the town boasts a studied physician and surgeon.
